“Drums”
This pattern has been created for an Outlander book and knitting group.
It is inspired by book 4 of the series by Diana Gabaldon that is being read as part of a group on Facebook.
I have taken the theme of the books title for inspiration and woven it around my concept for the piece.
This hat is based on a traditional Scottish ‘Tam’ hat that was historically worn by men. It would have been a woollen felted hat which would have offered protection from all weathers in the Highlands.
I have taken the style idea and added a ‘Standing Stone’ stitch feature into the rib of the hat to pull together Scotland, time travel and the manner in which this particular book switches at the beginning between the centuries.
To enable it to be made easily, without the use of double pointed needles and working in the round, I have created it to be worked flat on two needles and then with the use of a clever sewing up stitch, seam the edges together almost invisibly.
the hat can also be worn in a Beanie style as seen in the photos.
The pattern is written row by row with no chart. It is written for one size which is approx. 22/23cm
Its aimed at knitters of all abilities.
Approx Yarn Used 132m on 3.5mm and 3.75mm needles
To keep in the book club theme the pattern has been written in a book format rather than my normal layout. I hope you enjoy the taking part with this piece and the reading of the book.
This listing is for the KNITTING PATTERN only and not the finished garment.
It’s a pattern suitable for all abilities.
