“Friendship Ties”
I wanted to create a shawl that carries the elements of friendship, which when combined tie us together.
The stitches are worked with love entwining each and every one, to produce a piece of art to be worn and feel the love in which it was created.

The majority of stitches are plain knitting, which represents the everyday cycles that in turn add up to days, weeks and years of friendship. The nothing special days that blend into the special ones, that create memories and links from one human to another.

The area of lace stitches creates the openness to the shawl that replicates the openness in a friendship, allowing both parties to be themselves and be open with one another, whilst having the safety net of knowing the friendship will hold you up.

There are ridges crossing the shawl to mark the ups and downs life throws us and in turn almost gives a natural rhythm of waves that life takes us on along side our friends.

Finally the vertical lines, these give the straightness of moving forwards together side by side into the future.

The shape of the shawl is an asymmetrical triangle, depicting the irregular and uniqueness that every friendship is in shape and style.

Approx Overall Yarn Used 675m on 5mm needles

The stitches are suitable for all abilities and is a written pattern rather than a chart.
